According to data released by Apple's developer website, the adoption rate of iOS 17 has reached 76% among iPhone models released within the past four years. However, a significant portion of devices remain on older versions, with 20% running iOS 16 and 4% running earlier iterations.
This adoption rate is lower compared to iOS 16, which had an installation rate of 81% at the same time last year. This suggests that iOS 17 has not gained as much traction as Apple anticipated.
Across all active devices, 66% run iOS 17, 23% run iOS 16, and 11% run earlier iOS versions.
iOS 17 was initially unveiled in June 2023 and its official release came in September. Statistics indicate that just 18 days after its launch, the upgrade rate for iOS 17 stood at a mere 23%.
Several factors have contributed to this relatively slow adoption. One reason cited by users is the lack of significant upgrades in iOS 17 and iPhone 15 series. Many have expressed dissatisfaction with the limited improvements and unresolved optimization issues.
